Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP

Album Name: The Marshall Mathers LP

Year/Date:

Eminem was originally going to call this album Amsterdam. He nearly did this because he was very fond of Amsterdam as they played his type of music. He also heard the soon became beat of 'Kill you' whilst on the phone to Dr Dre and he heard it in the background. Eminems album Marshall Mathers was revolutionary as this was one of his first albums, and the type of music eminem produces which is Hip/Hop/Rap, is normally rapped by black Americans, and he rapped a lot better than the predominantly black style of music. Eminems music is known and loved worldwide, also he is liked because of his music lyrics that are usually based on true stories of his life.

Beatles Abbey Road

Album Name: Abbey Road

Producer: The Beatles

Artist: The Beatles

This is one of many albums that the beatles made. The beatles were one of the most famous and loved rock bands  Abbey road is the eleventh album they made. This album could have been revolutionary as this was the last album the beatles made where all 4 players participated. This album also includes pop, Progressive rock and blues. This album is also special as the front cover did not have the album name nor the bands name: The beatles. It just had an iconic photograph of the 4 beatles walking across a zebra crossing near the entrance to the studios in London NW8 in August 1969.

Album Name: The dark side of the moon

This could have been one of the reason that this album was revolutionary as the lyrics have a meaning behind them, and also that the album was so successful. The album dark side of the moon is a concept album that discusses the philosophical and physical ideas that can lead to a person's insanity, and ultimately an unfulfilled life. The album is a tale in two parts, the first half describes living a life that goes unfulfilled. The second half of the album consists of individual songs about different ideas and concepts that are detrimental to society and can lead to madness.

Operating  System
In this assignment, the system we used were Mac computers from apple, and the operating system was Mac OS X Version 10.7.5. We used the macs because this is what was provided but also they are quick computers and easy to use. The other systems that can support the program cubase 6 which is what we used are Linux and windows. I prefer using the macs, even though I am not used to them, as they are quick, and easy to use.

What is DAW/some research on DAW's
DAW stands for Digital audio workstation. It is an electronic device or computer software application used for recording, editing and producing audio files and songs. DAW comes in a range of of configurations, from a single software program such as a laptop, to an integrated standalone unit and all the way to a highly complexed configuration of numerous components controlled by a central computer. Modern DAWs have a central interface that allows the user to alter and mix multiple recordings and tracks into a final produced piece.

Midi
Midi stands for musical instrument digital interface. A midi track does not actually any instruments or sounds. Also, it is not a digital music file such as MP3 or a WAV file. Midi is just data, a set of instructions. Midi data contains a list of event or messages that will tell and electronic device such as a computer or a sound card how to generate a certain sound. Midi files are very good because they have a small file size, unlike a WAV file or Mp3. Also they are able to open and edit, as well as being played back by a lot of media players. Midi files are mostly used for:
-Karaoke Industry
-Old video games
-Old mobile phones
Midi connections contain Midi Thru. This is where if you have a set of keyboards, and you want to hear them all at once, or everyone play and record into one file, then Midi thru makes the possible by linking the devices. You also have Midi in, and Midi out. The midi code is the message format that makes the computer create the sound. There are two types of Midi message bytes. The data byte, which always starts with a 0, and the status byte, and the data byte. Status bytes always begin with a 1, where 3 bits (sss) are used to denote the type of message. 4 Bits (nnnn) are used to denote the channel number as the which the message applies to. There is a maximum of 16 channels per byte. 8 bits make one byte. Cubase also has midi manager, which is called 'list editor'. Midi channel numbers (n) are referred as 1 to 16. In reality they are represented by binary values from 0 to 15 (0-F).
